Weybridge Family Garden
The owners of this large, detached property in Weybridge had a garden full of promise, with some mature plants, a functional greenhouse and tall evergreen hedging along the boundaries. However, the space was badly organised with no clear layout and planting that blocked light from the house. We were therefore delighted to be asked to completely redesign and overhaul the space.
The brief was to create spacious areas for dinning, cooking and entertaining as well as a productive garden for growing herbs and other edibles. As keen gardeners, the owners wanted a space with lots of planting and wanted to incorporate elements of Japanese and more traditional English design if possible.
With the garden being much wider than it was long the new layout incorporated two elegant, sweeping curves that lead you from one end of the garden to the other. At one end of the garden a series of interlinking platforms float through planting to a large hardwood deck, perfect for dining and entertaining friends. This Japanese inspired area also incorporates three bubbling Corten steel water features, Japanese maple trees and a covered outdoor kitchen.
As you transition to the other end of the garden sections of hedging cut through the planting, which becomes more native in nature with silver birch trees and lots of woodland planting. The greenhouse is surrounded by a productive space with plenty of room for herbs and cut flowers to be grown.
Carefully positioned lighting add to the ambiance, creating an inviting and usable space after dark.
