Acton Japanese Garden
This family garden in Acton, West London needed some love and attention following an extensive renovation to the house. The clients wanted to bring colour and structure into the garden as well as introduce Japanese design elements to create a calming feel.
At the far end, we created a Japanese style space which was centred around the existing bamboo. This was thinned out and the lower leaves stripped back to create an architectural feature. Silver grey granite gravel and stepping stones are inter-planted with evergreen grasses, Azaleas and a weeping Japanese Maple. Small boulders are placed at strategic points while a stone lantern completes the Japanese feel. A curved teak bench, tucked away in the corner, allows for a few moments of contemplation.
From the house a large terrace leads to a new lawn which provides a generous area for the children to play football. The planting borders have been reshaped with existing shrubs pruned back to provide space for new perennials and grasses which bring more colour and textures into the beds.
What our clients had to say
After extensive renovations of our house, we asked John to design our garden within a tight budget, but he managed to come up with a plan which has completely transformed the space into a beautiful garden that we love to admire. We did not give him the simplest of briefs, a garden with a Japanese zen feel that could also double up as a sports field for the kids, but John came up with a great plan. He was there every step of the way to ensure that the project was delivered to the highest of standards and we can honestly say it is the aspect of our newly refurbished home with which we are most pleased! We cannot wait to go out and enjoy the space once the weather gets better! Thank you so much John.
