Ealing Family Garden
Following extensive renovations to the house the garden of this terraced house in Ealing, London was in dire need of some love and attention. The clients wanted an interesting space where they could relax, enjoy a bbq and where the children could play, surrounded by planting.
A lot of overlapping curves where used in the design which created generous planting areas and allowed for planting pockets to be set into the main terrace. The garden dropped away outside the house so the terrace was raised to create a smooth transition from inside to out with two elliptical area for a lounge and BBQ.
An large oval artificial lawn provided the children with a large play area and part of the raised beds was left bare so the children could grow their own vegetables in the spring/summer.
Western Red Cedar slats were used to create a contemporary fence with their rich red/orange tones. This also helps to elongate the space and makes the garden feel larger than it really is.
A multi-stemmed Amelanchier tree was placed near the terrace to create a feeling of privacy and four lollipop Photinia ‘Red Robbins’ were used at the end of the garden to create screening to the houses beyond. The beds were filled with a mixture of shrubs, perennials and ornamental grasses which will mature over the coming year to provide colour and movement into the garden.
Finally we installed a subtle lighting system that highlights keys features, provides an evening ambience and creates a usable outside space after dark.
