A Garden for all the Family
This large garden in Chiswick was in need of a little love and improvement to create a new space that worked for the whole family. The large garden wrapped around the house and had two clear zones, a lawn where the children liked to play and a formal eating area for adults to enjoy alfresco dining. What was missing was an informal space that linked the two areas together and could be used in a more flexible way.
Through consideration of how the family currently use the garden and their aspirations for more outdoor cooking and spaces to relax, our design team created a space that would unify the two parts of the garden together.
A new lounge space, which could also be used for informal dining now unites the adult and children zones and a sleek fire pit surrounded by comfortable outdoor sofas draws the family together in the centre of the space. Laser cut Corten steel art panels and a built-in water feature provides an attractive screen between the lawn and the new lounge area, without creating a sense of enclosure.
The existing sunken formal dining area has also been refreshed to have a more contemporary look and an outdoor fireplace has been introduced, giving the space warmth through the cooler months.

From start to finish the process was undertaken at the highest level of workmanship. John's design process was both interesting and enjoyable with every detail considered and every option explored.
The build part of the job was completed with minimal disruption by the skilled and dedicated team. We really appreciated the clarity of communication throughout the work, the guidance John gave us and his recommendations. The electrics, irrigation and planting are the icing on the cake creating a garden that is perfect for entertaining, for our children to play in and for us all to relax in for many years to come!
