Chiswick Family Garden
The clients of this large family home in Chiswick, London had recently renovated their house with a very high-end, contemporary finish. The work had left their garden a muddy mess and they wanted an outside space that matched their interior where they could dine, entertain and where the children and their friends would have plenty of room to play.
The area nearest the house was shady for much of the day and previous paving had become green with algae very quickly. Due to this we recommended hard wearing porcelain paving which would be much easier to keep clean. The terrace extended at different lengths to create separate lounge and dinning areas while pockets of planting were used to break the space up visually and add texture to this large space. A powerful outdoor wall heater was installed so that the space be used late into the evenings.
The rest of the garden was levelled which allowed for a large lawn with planting beds either side. Along the left hand border five Hornbeam columns were planted to add height and act as sentinels along that border. On the opposite border three Sumac trees were planted to balance the space and provide amazing autumn colour.
Wide cedar slats were used to create a bespoke fence whilst black bamboo was planted along the rear boundary which will eventually shield the house beyond.
A play area was included at the end of the garden but plans allow this to be turned into a sun deck once the kids have outgrown the trampoline.
