Woodland Retreat in Ealing, London
We were delighted to design and build this large garden in Ealing, West London, transforming a previously fragmented outdoor space into a calm, cohesive retreat designed for modern living, entertaining and relaxation.
The design is structured around a series of clearly defined yet visually connected spaces, creating a strong sense of flow throughout the garden. A generous porcelain-paved terrace forms an elegant setting for dining and entertaining while steps leading down to the lower garden enhance access and views across the space. At the rear, a more informal seating area is nestled amongst woodland-style planting, creating a tranquil and slightly magical atmosphere.
A carefully considered palette of materials adds warmth and texture to the design. Soft gravel surfaces are paired with limestone detailing, while a curved timber boardwalk introduces a natural, organic element that contrasts beautifully with the clean architectural lines closer to the house. Discreet metal edging and gently flowing paths guide movement through the garden while maintaining an open, uncluttered feel.
Soft landscaping plays a vital role in completing the space. A new lawn and layered planting provide structure and seasonal interest, while decorative pots create focal points throughout the garden. Raised productive beds allow the clients to grow their own vegetables, adding a practical and personal touch. Integrated irrigation supports healthy establishment and long-term success.
The project was completed with new boundary fencing, a relocated and renovated summer house and a compact outdoor kitchen area, resulting in a stylish, inviting garden perfectly suited to its West London setting.
